COVID-19 and Healthcare Providers – Relief, Business and Employment Concerns

Course Description:

This module will provide a comprehensive explanation of the provisions of the CARES Act and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and how these two new laws and guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Department of Labor affect healthcare organizations as businesses, employers, and providers of healthcare and emergency response.

Statement of Need:

COVID-19 has affected the US and the world in several ways, including, but not limited to, the creation of a significant financial strain on physicians and their practices, health systems and other allied healthcare professionals.  Recently passed legislation allows for physicians to apply for various types of loans and financial assistance.  Physicians are not aware of the law, how it can positively impact their financial considerations, deadlines for applying and requirements for repayment, etc. 

Objectives:

At the end of this module physicians will be able to:

•       Describe relief available to businesses under the CARES Act through expanded loan programs

•       Discuss the Accelerated and Advance Medicare payments through CARES Act expansion

•       Describe paid sick leave provisions and FMLA expansion exclusions for healthcare providers and emergency responders

•       Explain how to apply for assistance and where to locate additional information
