Keri Remmel, M.D., PhD, Receives KMA Educational Achievement Award
LOUISVILLE, KY — The Kentucky Medical Association (KMA) presented its Educational Achievement Award to Keri Remmel, M.D., PhD, of Louisville during the Leadership Dinner at the 2019 KMA Annual Meeting on Sept. 21.
The award is presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions and achievements in the area of continuing medical education. Dr. Remmel is a Professor of and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She received her Doctorate in Communications Disorders and Linguistics from Louisiana State University and her medical degree from the University of Louisville. Upon joining the University of Louisville faculty in 2000, Dr. Remmel assumed various leadership roles, rising to Chair of the Department of Neurology. One of her passions is in research, and she has served as a Principle Investigator on over 20 clinical trials and grants. Dr. Remmel is also a highly regarded teacher, with many of her students eventually pursuing fellowships in stroke and becoming stroke and critical care leaders around the country.
Dr. Remmel also worked to establish the University of Louisville Hospital Stroke Center, regarded as one of the most prestigious stroke centers in the country. According to one letter of support, the center “is a mecca for training fellows in stroke and critical care” and because of her leadership, it is a participant in “every single cutting-edge clinical trial in stroke.”
