I hope this message finds each of you healthy, safe, and rested from an enjoyable holiday season. It’s hard to believe 2022 is already upon us, but I am looking forward to this year and the activities and initiatives the KMA in particular has planned.
KMA and the KFMC are continuing our important public health work in 2022, particularly through our “Breathe Better Kentucky” initiative with the Anthem Foundation. This afternoon actually kicks off the first in a three-part CME series we are offering for physicians, “The State of Lung Cancer in Kentucky.” The webinars will explore the status of the disease in our state, as well as look at the causes, emerging treatments, and how we as providers can help our patients navigate screenings and care. I’d encourage you to register here and join us for this important discussion. The series will be followed in February by the premiere of “Fighting to Breathe,” a multi-part special airing on KET that examines the under told story of lung cancer in Kentucky. KMA and the KFMC, as well as the Anthem Foundation, are sponsoring, in part, the production of this series and a number of KMA member physicians have been interviewed as part of the program. COVID continues to move into endemic status, and the winter weather and holiday season have brought a new surge of those who contract the virus. Statistics clearly show that those who are fully vaccinated and boosted are far less likely to not only contract it, but are also far less likely to hospitalized. Please continue to encourage patients and others to get vaccinated. Our collective voice through KMA makes a difference, but your individual voice is even more powerful.
Finally, with the new year in mind, I’d like to remind you that now is a great time to renew your KMA membership for 2022 if you haven’t already. The KMA is only as strong as its members, and I am so proud that despite the challenges we have faced over the last (nearly) two years, we have continued to grow in membership and offer Kentucky physicians the resources and benefits they need the most. Our goal has always been to advocate, communicate, and educate for our physicians, and my hope is that you have found great value in your KMA membership.
