During 2023 Physicians’ Day at the Capitol, Kentucky Medical Association to Call for Passage of Prior Authorization Reform (House Bill 134)
Frankfort, Ky.— To ensure patients can access important treatments and medications without delay, physicians from across Kentucky will call for passage of legislation to reform prior authorization requirements during the Kentucky Medical Association’s Physicians’ Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, February 22. The KMA will kick off Physicians’ Day at the Capitol with a prior authorization press conference in the Capitol Rotunda at 8:45 am. The event will feature KMA President Monalisa Tailor, M.D., Bowling Green pediatrician Casey Miles, M.D., and Rep. Kim Moser.
Prior auth reform has been a long-time priority for the KMA. Earlier this month, the group launched a new campaign to educate Kentuckians on prior auth and encourage reform: ReformPriorAuth.org. According to a recent KMA member survey, seven in ten physicians indicated the amount of work associated with the prior auth process has increased in recent years, and more than 80 percent said that issues related to the prior auth process led to delays or changes to their patients’ recommended course of treatment.
This year, Rep. Kim Moser has filed House Bill 134, legislation that would create a prior authorization exemption program that automatically waives prior auth requirements if a physician has historically been approved for specific procedures or services.
