Learn With Me: Urology

Continuing Medical Education Information

Course Description:

This activity will address the clinical specialty of urology.  Content will include descriptions of current treatment approaches for common urologic conditions, prostate health, PSA screenings, kidney stones, and vaginal estrogen cream to support conditions of menopause.

Statement of Need:

Advances in urologic care, including novel pharmacologic therapies, robotic-assisted surgery, immunotherapy, and precision medicine, have created a rapidly shifting clinical landscape. Physicians in both primary and specialty care settings are increasingly tasked with diagnosing, managing, and coordinating care for patients with prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urinary incontinence, and nephrolithiasis. However, wide variation exists in adherence to evidence-based guidelines and best practices, which may lead to under- or overtreatment, delayed diagnosis, or fragmented patient care.

Professional Practice Gap: Many physicians lack current knowledge and skills to optimally apply updated clinical guidelines, integrate new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, and incorporate patient-centered decision-making in urology.

Expected Results in competence: Physicians need to be able to interpret and apply guidelines to individual patients, including risk stratification and selection of appropriate therapies.

Objectives:

  • Describe strategies for improving health outcomes through better approaches to screening, treatment for incontinence, kidney stones and utilization of vaginal estrogen cream.
