Course Description:
This activity will address the importance of diagnosis and treatment of Weight management. Education will also focus on current treatment protocols including medications and emerging research.
Statement of Need: The treatment of overweight and obesity depends on the individual’s goals, preferences, and health status. In some cases, weight-loss medicines or surgery may be prescribed to help achieve or maintain weight loss.
The management of overweight and obesity requires long-term commitment and follow-up. It involves regular monitoring of weight, food intake, physical activity, and health outcomes. It also requires ongoing support and feedback from health care professionals, family, friends, and other sources. The goal of management is to prevent weight regain and improve the quality of life and well-being of the individual.
Objectives:
- Describe the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment options for weight management
- Understand the complex chronic nature of treating obesity
- Recognize that obesity is a disease
- Discuss different methods for the treatment of obesity
- Describe current treatments that can address some of the symptoms of the disease
