Continuing Medical Education Information
Course Description: This activity will address the importance of screening, diagnosis and treatment of brain health conditions. Education will also focus on current treatment protocols including medications and emerging research surrounding dementia, Altheimer’s and other neurologic conditions.
Statement of Need: Over 30 million people worldwide live with dementia. 1 in 3 seniors will die of dementia/Alzheimer’s. Primary care professionals are key to the early identification of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairments. Brain health discussions and screenings are critical to earlier diagnosis and treatment. However, many PCP’s lack knowledge of standard protocols on engagement, screening and treatment of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Objectives:
- Describe symptoms of dementia.
- Describe how to integrate discussions on brain health and cognitive screenings into patient visits.
- Compare Alzheimer’s and dementia.
- Recognize how diagnosis affects the brain
- Describe current treatments that can address some of the symptoms of the disease
- Describe emerging research
