KMA Publishes Op-Ed on Prior Authorization

The 2025 General Assembly adjourned on March 28, and KMA once again championed prior authorization reform. This session saw unprecedented movement on the issue. HB 423, which would have established a prior authorization exemption or “gold carding” program to reduce administrative burdens, passed through the House and the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee without opposition. Despite broad support and agreement among stakeholders, the bill stalled in the Senate during the final days due to unrelated policy and political disputes between the two chambers. KMA President Evelyn Montgomery Jones, M.D., penned an op-ed that being distributed statewide on the Association’s disappointment on this issue.
