Continuing Medical Education Information
Course Description:
This activity will address the importance of effective communication, patient counseling and education regarding the importance of vaccines related to RSV, COVID-19, and pneumococcal disease.
Education will also focus on current treatment protocols.
Statement of Need:
According to national data which pulls together state and national statistics, vaccine rates for children in Kentucky are much lower than national rates.
“Kentucky’s children have the sixth lowest rate of vaccination against Covid-19 and influenza, with only 38% having received a Covid-19 vaccine and only 35% having a flu shot. That’s much lower than the national rates of 57% and 55% respectively, according to a Quote Wizard report.”
In addition, misinformation about vaccine efficacy has added to hesitation among parents and guardians regarding vaccine safety, as the surgeon general in 2021 warned:
“I am urging all Americans to help slow the spread of health misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Health misinformation is a serious threat to public health. It can cause confusion, sow mistrust, harm people’s health, and undermine public health efforts. Limiting the spread of health misinformation is a moral and civic imperative that will require a whole-of-society effort.”
