2018 KMA Annual Meeting Just Weeks Away

Posted August 6, 2018

The 2018 KMA Annual Meeting is quickly approaching, and members are encouraged to register as soon as possible to secure their admission to the weekend’s exciting lineup of speakers and events.

The theme of this year’s meeting, Forward Focus: The Path to Physical and Fiscal Health, to be held Aug. 24-26 at the Louisville Marriott East, will reflect on the five year anniversary of KMA’s strategic planning session, Focus Forward, which brought some of the most significant change to the organization in its 150 year history. Forward Focus will also look to the future of the Association and celebrate the advancement of the medical community.

Keynoting Saturday’s Kentucky Physicians Leadership Academy is security and fraud expert Frank Abagnale, Jr., subject of the 2002 Steven Spielberg film Catch Me If You Can. KMA is also excited to welcome KFMC President Shawn Jones, M.D., FACS, whose book, Finding Heart in Art: A Surgeon’s Renaissance Approach To Healing Modern Medical Burnout, uses Renaissance paintings as a framework to explain how medical professionals can manage fatigue. Saturday’s session will also feature Kurt Mosley, Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Merritt Hawkins and its parent company, AMN Healthcare. His presentation is titled “The Problem is Poverty: Why Poverty and Income Inequality Are at the Core of America’s High Health Care Spending.”

The 2018 Annual Meeting will also debut KMA’s Beyond the White Coat Gallery, showcasing the talents and hobbies of more than 30 physicians across the state. Beyond the White Coat seeks to celebrate the interests of physicians outside the exam room that aid in combating stress and burnout. Submissions include woodworking, martial arts, photography, jewelry creation, hot air ballooning, and even movie production.

Members attending Annual Meeting are encouraged to visit the KMA website prior to arrival for the most up to date information and to download necessary materials, as Wi-Fi in meeting rooms will be limited. The House of Delegates Handbook/Report to Membership, Resolutions, Sunsetting Policies, Constitution & Bylaws, a hotel layout, the membership report by county, a list of new & rejoin members, and a list of deceased physicians will all be available for download to laptops or tablets at www.kyma.org/annualmeeting.
