KMA Past President Bruce Scott, M.D. Elected AMA President-Elect

KMA Past President Bruce Scott, M.D., was elected President-Elect of the American Medical Association (AMA) during their Annual Meeting last week in Chicago.

Dr. Scott, a Louisville otolaryngologist who served as KMA President from 2018-2019, will become President of the AMA in June 2024. He previously served four terms each as AMA Vice Speaker and Speaker of the House of Delegates, navigating the organization through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In his work with both KMA and the AMA, he has advocated for access to care for vulnerable populations, improvement in public health and reduction of administrative burdens in health care.

“With physician burnout surging, prior authorizations taking more and more time and resources away from patient care, and an unsustainable Medicare system, I will advocate relentlessly during my presidency for the AMA Recovery Plan for America’s Physicians,” Dr. Scott stated in an AMA press release.

Dr. Scott will become the third AMA President in recent years from Kentucky, following Dr. Ardis Hoven in 2013 and Dr. Steven Stack in 2015.
